My mother crying on a piano that was out of tune.
The first time I had witnessed a pain deeper than the lashes of a belt. I didn't realize how constant that feeling would become as the clouds continually circled overhead.
My grandfather built this church and he finally rests beside it. A juxtaposition of light and dark I'd come to appreciate.
The kitchen was always filled with the sweat of Louisiana's backwoods. His father was educated in a time of the uneducated. My grandmother must have seen the writing on the walls. The apple falls on the stones that they paved for us.
